Slow travel through the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla and Mexico City.
We traveled 8 weeks including one week in Cancun prior to flying to Tuxtla Gutierrez.
This trip can be done in reverse as well. In retrospect, we think maybe we should’ve started in the big city and ended at the beach, but then we headed out with a very loose itinerary. Que será, será.

Fly to Tuxtla Gutierrez, We flew here from Cancún. Taxi to Chiapas de Corzo: 1 night. Visit Canyon de Sumidermo.
Bus to San Cristóbal de las Casas: 7 nights minimum.
Bus to Comitán de Gutierrez: 3 nights.
Bus to Tuxtla Gutierrez: 1 night, maybe 2.
Option 1: Fly to either Huatulco or Puerto Escondido. Decide how many beach days you want.
Option 2: Bus to Tehuantepec, 1 night and the next day bus to either Huatulco or Puerto Escondido. Although this is what we did I don’t recommend it.
Fly to Oaxaca de Juárez: 7 nights minimum.
Bus to Puebla: 7 nights
Bus to Mexico City: 7 nights minimum.
Fly home out of Mexico City. (Or do this in reverse.)

When planning, take into consideration the weather and seasons. We traveled the months of October and November starting in hotter climes and moving to cooler ones.
Please check out the multiple posts that I‘ve blogged on each location for more detailed information and photos.
Mexico has big cities, colorful colonial cities, amazing churches, beautiful beaches, waterfalls, as well as a huge variety of fresh food!
