The Balkans: A Perfect Itinerary

Croatia, Bosnia, Hercegovina, Montenego in 3 weeks.

History. Nature. Architecture. Food. People.

In 2015 we traveled to The Balkans after traveling by train through Romania, Hungary, Czechia and Austria. This adjusted itinerary is just about perfect!

Zagreb, Croatia, 2 nights. Pick up rental car and drop off in Split.

Racovika, 2 nights (one day to visit Plitvice Lakes National Park and another to explore the area.)

Zadar, 1 night

Split, 7 nights to slow down, relax, and visit outer islands. Looking for a longer stay? We stayed a month and loved it!

Dubrovnik, 3 nights (by bus)

Mostar, Bosnia, 2 nights (by bus)

Kotor, Montenegro, 3 nights (by private driver)

Bus to Bar, Montenegro. We had originally planned to continue to Albania, but decided to take the night ferry over to Bari, Italy.

Another UNESCO Heritage site, Mostar, Bosnia Hercegovina

Kotor, Montenegro

Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia

Sun and sea in the Adriatic at Split, Croatia.

Is there such a thing as the perfect itinerary? You can’t see it all in one vacation. You have to pick and choose. We trained across Slovenia and missed Ljubljana. We have something to go back to in the future.
